Mein Kiez (My 'Hood)

For most countries in Europe, Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st. In Germany it's called "Tag der Arbeit" and is an excuse for festivals, demonstrations, and on occasion, riots. Perhaps the largest celebration in Berlin took place in my neighborhood, which is called Kreuzberg. The festivities were just a few hundred yards away from my front door, and it was still going strong as I went to bed last night. Definitely fun people-watching.

Not for the claustrophobic

Although it's not Bavaria, pretzels are still plentiful

Of course all business were closed, but most all shop owners would instead sell food and drinks in front of their store

Have no fear, the "Anti-Konflikt Team" is here!

Great weather as well

One of the more positive protests..."In every crisis there's a chance!"

Flyer bemoaning the evils of Capitalism and calling for the working class to start a revolution....hmmm, seems like they tried that one before...

A "not-so-political" approach to May 1st

A Biergarten right on the canal, where we coincidentally ran into my roomate, who's working there for the Summer
