Federal Republic of Bavaria?

Many of you have heard me talk about the uniqueness of Bavaria. Most of the German stereotypes (Lederhosen, knee-slapping dances, gigantic steins of beer) come from "Bayern." Within Germany, however, the region also has lots of connotations. Very conservative (at least for here), they speak Bayrisch (an almost indecipherable dialect of German), and they have enormous state pride...kind of like Texas. The rule of thumb is: you come from Bayern, you love it; otherwise, you love to hate it. So I wasn't surprised when I saw this poster right outside my door (in Berlin - some 360 miles from Munich).

"Don't you also want to get rid of the Bavarians? Then vote for the Bavarian Party"
"For a Germany without Bavaria"
